Classic Yeast Sandwich Bread

Method

  1. Combine flour, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Add warm water and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Add salt and butter. Knead 8–10 minutes by hand, or with the dough hook on low to medium-low for 5–6 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and rise 60–90 minutes until doubled.
  5. Shape into a tight tube and place seam-side down in a greased 9×5 pan.
  6. Cover and proof 45–60 minutes, until the dough crowns about 1 inch above the rim.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 30–35 minutes, until golden and 195–200°F internally.
  8. Remove from the pan immediately and cool at least 1 hour before slicing.
